# Access Control

Access control can be setup at various points in Pinot, such as controller endpoints and broker query endpoints. By default we will use [AllowAllAccessFactory](https://github.com/apache/incubator-pinot/blob/master/pinot-controller/src/main/java/org/apache/pinot/controller/api/access/AllowAllAccessFactory.java) and hence not be enforcing any access controls. You can add access control by implementing the [AccessControlFactory](https://github.com/apache/incubator-pinot/blob/master/pinot-controller/src/main/java/org/apache/pinot/controller/api/access/AccessControlFactory.java) interface.

The access control factory can be configured in the controller configs by setting the fully qualified class name of the AccessControlFactory in the property `controller.admin.access.control.factory.class`

The access control factory can be configured in the broker configs by setting the fully qualified class name of the AccessControlFactory in the property `pinot.broker.access.control.class`. Any other properties required for initializing the factory can be set in the broker configs as properties with the prefix `pinot.broker.access.control`.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.pinot.apache.org/release-0.4.0/operators/operating-pinot/access-control.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
